UNDERSTANDING ACTING w/Winnie Hiller

SUPER OBJECTIVE!

I’ve talked a lot about objectives in this class. That’s because your scene’s objective is what you want from the person you are speaking to. And I think it’s important that you keep your efforts focused on the other person. The scene is never about you. It’s about your goal with that person you are using your words on.

But there is more to your character than just this scene. He/she had a life before and after this scene. There will be many different objectives throughout the play. But there is one objective that propels your character through the majority of his life. It’s what is most important and what they are always striving for. Stanislavsky calls this the “SUPER OBJECTIVE”. Honing in on what this could be can give you a lot of insight into figuring out how your character thinks and help you understand why they do what they do.
